High-efficient structures using natural materials managed by a wireless sensor network


A-CING, integrated in consortia formed by Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) and the Spanish company Euroestudios, has been approved by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness within the framework of the INNPACTO 2012 programme of financial aid for the  R&D project called BRIOSISTEMA.

The aim of the project is the research and development of an innovative solution based on a green breathable enclosure for buidings, ensuring water requirements and luminance to keep it alive and active.

The system is controlled by a wireless sensor network that measure several parameters like temperature, humidity, brightness, concentration of CO2 and O2 or air pressure, and help keeping the moss in its best condition (managing irrigation, temperature control, lighting, etc), making decisions and acting dynamically.

This kind of solution will provide the following benefits:

  • Savings in energy consumption.
  • Sound insulation.
  • Reducing  the temperature in summer and keeping it constant in winter.
  • Savings on water consumption.
  • Contributing to the environment, thanks to the fact that 1 m2 of vegetation produces the oxygen required by a person in a year.
  • Reducing the urban heat islandeffect.
  • Etc.
