PAVIREX. New safer road surfaces in extreme temperature conditions

at Pavirex project, which was been funded by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness within the R+D+I promotion programme INNPACTO 2011.

The main objective of Pavirex, is the development of bituminous mixtures with improved response to specific temperatures and extreme situations, such as the formation of ice on the roadway or the presence of a fire in closed places such as a tunnel.

Likewise, it aims to develop an intelligent system based on predictive sensors, able to predict ice formation in the short term through the atmospheric conditions in real time, in order to heat the road, through preheated fluid pipes, and thereby, prevent ice formation.

The A-CING main task in the project focuses on the design of a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN), key to maintaining an optimal coverage field and to reduce the maintenance cost of the system. Ice detection sensors will be used to predict the ice formation on the road surface.
